CBS Challenge your Research Talent | Deadline: April 3, 2020

The Carl Benz School of Engineering (CBS) is proud to celebrate its 20th birthday in 2020! In order to highlight this very special occasion CBS announces an award which will honour study excellence and research talent and will be handed over during the Graduation Ceremony of Intake 2016 on April 24, 2020.

 

What are your benefits? 

 

The winners will benefit from a reduction of college fees in the amount of 2,500 €, as well as from a travel grant of 1,000 €, to be used for participating in a research event (conference or summer school) with a faculty member of the Department of Mechanical Engineering. Please note that the scholarship is only usable in this context and cannot be defrayed to cover other expenses.

 

What are the requirements? 

 

Applicants are asked to meet the following requirements:

  • CBS College Program participants must have a Grade Point Average < 2,0
  • CBS College Program Participants must have successfully completed all required ECTS points according to their study progress of either semester 3 or 5.

 

What we'd like to know from you:

 

The Research Challenge consists of answering the following questions:

  • The discipline of Mechanical Engineering is undergoing some major changes (Industry 4.0, Electromobility, Autonomous Driving, sustainable production). Please describe how this field will develop in the next ten years from today. Specifically, please elaborate what kind of training a Mechanical Engineer will need to acquire, in order to meet the demands of the future job market. What kind of thematic focus, skills and tools will be required? What will be the discipline’s challenges?
  • This challenge is for exceptional students (College Program participants) meeting the demanding requirements of participation (GPA < 2,0; completed all exams in accordance with study progress). Please describe what personal attributes drove you to become a successful student and also describe how you achieved your ambitious goals?

Please answer these questions on a maximum number of two pages (font size 12, line-spacing 1,15). We welcome creative ideas regarding your application, as for example a youtube video. If you have additional ideas, please reach out to Dr. Birgitta Kappes to discuss them.
