Exploring Sustainable Solutions: CBS Summer School in Mechanical Engineering for High School Innovators

The CBS Summer School is designed for high school students aged 16 and older seeking an immersive exploration into the world of mechanical engineering. This unique program offers a comprehensive introduction to the field, emphasizing its profound relevance in addressing contemporary challenges. With a focus on experiential learning, participants engage in hands-on workshops and thought-provoking lectures, each woven around at least one of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Delving into the intersection of mechanical engineering and these global objectives, students gain valuable insights into the discipline’s potential to drive sustainable solutions.

Dates: In 2024, we offer three weeks of our CBS Summer School in Karlsruhe:

  • Week 1 | July 1st - July 6th, 2024
  • Week 2 | July 8th - July 13th, 2024 (Two parallel sessions: One session for young women only!)
  • Week 3 | July 15th - July 20th, 2024

Location: Carl Benz School of Engineering, Karlsruhe, Germany

Target Group: Technically-inclined high school students between the ages of 16 and 19.

Teaching language: English

Costs: The participation amounts to 990€ (EUR) and includes workshops & lectures, lunch and excursions.

Registration: The registration for this year's summer school is now open.

Accommodation: Please be aware that the accommodation is not included in the price and will have to be organized by you.

    • Building Sustainable Communication: Design and Construct a Radio Transmitter

    • Design and Build a Wind Turbine

    • Programming a Microcontroller for Wireless Remote Precision Temperature

Schedule Example

This serves as an illustration of the schedule from the previous year. Based on feedback from students indicating a preference for more hands-on technical workshops over lectures, we have adjusted this year's program to include 6 workshops and 4 lessons. Additionally, the Saturday trip to Europa Park will be substituted with an excursion to the more educationally significant location of the Speyer Technology Museum.
